From my pond diary

The Heron Came Back—and Tried a Different Route

The deterrent worked again, but the heron tried a different way in. I added fishing line to block that approach.

Two visits in quick succession

On 11 September 2026, I wrote in my pond diary that the heron was back. The weather had cooled here in the UK, and it had returned twice in quick succession.

The deterrent worked again, but this time the bird tried a different route.

What I changed

I added fishing line to block that approach. It was a small adjustment to the protection already around my pond.

If you use line around your own pond, keep it taut and visible, and check it regularly so it cannot entangle wildlife.

Why I keep a pond diary

This is the sort of visit worth noting down: the heron returned, the deterrent worked, and there was still something to change at the pond.

For me, tallGuard and the physical protection go together. A returning bird can try another route, so I still need to pay attention to where it approaches.
